There are two widespread misconceptions about hypnosis, the first being the concept of, is hypnosis real and the other being, how many kinds of hypnosis can be found? Many people get shocked to know that there are different kinds of hypnotherapy and there are different procedures that are used for conducting the sessions of hypnotherapy. Not many people realise that the scope of hypnotherapy is vast, it is more widespread than any other field of study in psychology. Hypnotherapy is divided into many departments and sub-departments and there are different applications and methods of studying these branches and gaining proficiency in them.

In this article, the doubt is hypnosis real is going to be overcome by discussing the different types of hypnosis therapies that are available in detail.

Available types of Hypnosis

  • Traditional Hypnosis: This is the most popular form of hypnosis and this is the form of hypnosis that comes to our mind when we refer to hypnotizing a person. When an individual is in a hypnotic state when personal hypnosis is done then the person’s behavior, action, and thought process is controlled by the person who has hypnotized the individual. Traditional hypnosis is used to treat someone for self-improvement. Last but not least, traditional hypnosis is the hypnosis that is shown in television shows and films.
  • Ericksonian Hypnosis: This treatment is named after Milton Ericson, who is also known as the father of modern hypnotherapy. This type of hypnosis uses metaphors, storytelling as commands. Other things that could be used as commands are any kind of direct and indirect suggestion. The reason why this theory is conducted on individuals is to find your capacity to resist indirect suggestions. It also tests your capacity of absorbing and internalizing indirect suggestions. Psychologists try this kind of therapy against individuals who need hypnosis but are skeptical about trying traditional hypnosis.
  • Cognitive-behavioral Hypnotherapy: The concept of this technique of hypnotherapy is directly related to Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy. This therapy is used to bring a positive change in the behavior pattern of an individual and induce positive thinking in a person’s lifetime. The psychologists are yet to provide a compact definition of what Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy is and what is its scope of action, as this form of hypnotherapy shares many similarities with other types of hypnotherapy that are available. But, the reason that there is no concrete definition of hypnotherapy, does not mean for an individual to doubt is hypnosis real? Conceptualization and Imagination are the tools used in this form of hypnotherapy. This hypothesis helps you to cope with any crisis that you are facing in your life.
  • Regression Hypnotherapy: If you have a crisis that you are dealing with currently and do not know or cannot find the reason behind the underlying cause of the crisis, then regression hypnotherapy will help you to uncover the reason for the crisis by taking you back in the past. Analyzing the events of the past makes you understand why you are going through the present crisis and the ways through which you can overcome it. This is considered to be a very delicate and invasive therapy. This is used as a last alternative by the psychiatrists, to introduce a positive impact on a person living who is depressed by a crisis and does not have an answer to it.
  • Solution-Focused Hypnotherapy: This hypnotherapy is used by psychiatrists to gauge the current situation that they are in, how well they are coping with the situation, and how well they would want their future to look. This hypnotherapy focuses more to help the individual to find a solution to their problem and not to move backward and find the cause of the problem, but to move forward and try and find a solution to their problem. This therapy is client-oriented where the therapists sit with their clients and try to find a way to help them to move out of their problems and achieve the goals that they have set in life.
  • Neuro-Linguistic Programming: There is a lot of disagreement among psychiatrists whether neuro-linguistic programming could be categorized as a form of psychotherapy although this form of programming and hypnotherapy share many similarities. Therefore, many psychiatrists use this programming in counseling sessions to induce positive and desired change in the mindset of a person. NLP examines the relationship that an individual has with their senses. It also examines how an individual processes the use of language to induce positive changes in their lives.
